Internal erosion by suffusion on cohesionless gap-graded soils: Model and sensibility analysis
نویسندگان
چکیده
Cohesionless gap-graded soils are susceptible to volumetric internal erosion, also called suffusion, under the action of seepage flow through porous material. More precisely, during suffusion three processes simultaneously take place: detachment, transport and possible filtration fine particles. This paper proposes a new relationship describe development based on energy approach. The proposed is power law that relates cumulative eroded mass with dissipated by flow. requires material parameters: erosion resistance index maximum both characterize fully-eroded state; smoothing time controls kinetics. first two parameters being measured from series experimental tests performed in oedometric conditions. program was set up study different along lengths. found be insensitive length. On other hand, tends increase attributed phenomena. predicted energy-based compares reasonably well data, fitting for each test fixed time. To improve our physical understanding kinetics, between hydraulic diffusion postulated accordance observations. Such hypothesis improves predictions.

prediction the ultimate bearing capacity of shallow foundations on the cohesionless soils using m5p model tree
bearing capacity prediction of shallow foundation is one of the most important problems in geotechnical engineering practices, with a wide variety range of methods which have been introduced to forecast it accurately. recently, soft computing methods such as artificial neural networks (anns) and support vector machines (svms) have been used for prediction of the ultimate bearing capacity of sha...
متن کاملEvolutionary-based approaches for settlement prediction of shallow foundations on cohesionless soils
Due to the heterogeneous nature of granular soils and the involvement of many effective parameters in the geotechnical behavior of soil-foundation systems, the accurate prediction of shallow foundation settlements on cohesionless soils is a complex engineering problem. In this study, three new evolutionary-based techniques, including evolutionary polynomial regression (EPR), classical genetic p...
متن کاملOn the modelling of internal soil erosion
Suffusion is the process whereby fine particles are moved locally an transported through a coarse layer. This is a bulk erosion, which corresponds to a source term in the mass balance equations. This bulk erosion is counter intuitive, as erosion is basicaly an interfacial process. We suggest a framework within suffusion in a clayey sand can be viewed as a clay/water interface erosion at the mic...
متن کاملa study on insurer solvency by panel data model: the case of iranian insurance market
the aim of this thesis is an approach for assessing insurer’s solvency for iranian insurance companies. we use of economic data with both time series and cross-sectional variation, thus by using the panel data model will survey the insurer solvency.
Bearing Capacity of Shallow Foundations on Cohesionless Soils: A Random Forest Based Approach
Determining the ultimate bearing capacity (UBC) is vital for design of shallow foundations. Recently, soft computing methods (i.e. artificial neural networks and support vector machines) have been used for this purpose. In this paper, Random Forest (RF) is utilized as a tree-based ensemble classifier for predicting the UBC of shallow foundations on cohesionless soils. The inputs of model are wi...
